Purkis, Delbert J. (17 June 1940 - 6 Oct. 2001)

DELBERT J. PURKIS 61,died at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 17,1940 in Unity Wis. to Clyde Purkis, Sr. and Phoebe (Evenson) Purkis. Mr. Purkis lived in Jasper County since 1990. He retired from Burlington Motor Carriers, where he was a dispatcher and a truck driver. He served in the army during the Korean War where he was a surveyor for the 7th Infantry Division of the Second Battallion.

On May 28,1986,he married Linda Chism in Madison County, Mo. She survives him, as do his son, Dennis Purkis, St. Louis; daughters Denise Gudonundsson, Portland, Ore., Angela Purkis, Reeds Mo. and Chasity Nicole Briggs, Joplin; One brother, Clyde Purkis, Jr. of Marshfield, Wis.

Services will be held at 2p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.10 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. David Deffenbaugh will be presiding. Visitation time will be from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct 9 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Mr. Purkis will be buried at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield Missouri.
