GRANTON - Helen Amanda Rose Garbisch, 89, of Granton died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville, where she was residing.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Missouri Synod Church in Granton. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1915, in Grant Township, Clark County, the daughter of Henry and Ottillie (Kuchenmeister) Schuelke. She attended Cunningham Country School, graduating from the eighth grade. In 1931, when she was 16 years old, she cared for a relative recovering from a kidney stone operation in Milwaukee. On Sept. 27, 1934, she returned to Granton to marry Frederick Garbisch, a farm boy whom she knew well through church activities.

Helen and her husband were longtime general leaders of the Pleasant Ridge 4-H Club in the town of Grant. She was a member of the South Granton Sewing Club, the Zion Lutheran Missouri Synod Church in Granton and its Ladies Aid.

She is survived by five children, Lavon (Don) Bartsch of Granton, Ronald (Annabelle) Garbisch of Granton, Fritz (Kathy) Garbisch of Granton, Elsie (Terry) Sischo of Neillsville and John (Lois) Garbisch of Granton; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Helen) Schuelke of Two Harbors, Minn.; a sister, Ruth (Frank) LaDuca of Buffalo, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Vernell Schuelke of St. Charles, Ill., Leona Tucker of Wausau and Jeannie Schuelke of Milwaukee.
