Olson, Arne C. (4 Feb 1843 - 17 June 1932)
Arne G. Olson, one of Clark county’s early settlers, passed away at the home of his son Fred, east of Colby, Friday, June 17, aged 89 years, four months and 13 days.
Mr. Olson was born in Norway, Feb. 4, 1843, and grew to manhood there. In 1870 he was married to Ellen Johnson and the next year they came to America. They arrived in Trempealeau county in May and the following October Mr. Olson went into a logging camp on Popple river in the north part of Clark county. In 1872 he filed on a homestead in the town of Mayville. This land he developed into a fine farm and the place has remained in the family every since.
To Mr. and Mrs. Olson were born eight sons, five of whom survive: Oluf of Neillsville; Tony of Taylor county; Peter at Ladysmith; Morris in Calumet county; Fred in Marathon county; John, Julius and Otto are deceased. Mrs. Olson died in 1904. He is survived by forty-three grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Olson took place an active part in the development of his community and was a fine type of the pioneers who helped to make this county prosperous by their industry and economy.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the old farm home, and at the Norwegian Lutheran church northwest of Curtiss, which Mr. Olson helped to establish many years ago.
