FRANCES NOVAK

Frances (Plonka) Novak age 70, died on Monday, Dec. 12, 1960, at her home. Frances was in ill health for several years. Frances was born August 17, 1890, to Valentine and Margaret Plonka in Poznan, Poland. She received her education in Europe and came to the United States to the Chicago area, at the age of 18.

On July 12, 1912, she was married to Thomas Novak in Chicago and soon afterward they moved to the Hatfield area in Jackson County. Over the years they lived in their home near to the Hatfield School and in about 1941 moved to 40 acres that they purchased by Bruce Mound, just north of what is now the Bruce Mound Ski Area. They built a small log cabin and then added on to it.

There were 10 children born to this couple, but only four lived beyond infancy. Those surviving Frances, are; Anna (Harry) Wroblewski, Lillian (Milton) Kramer, and Emily (Edward) Basara, all of Chicago, IL; and Rudolph (Dolores) on the home place at rural Merrillan (Dewhurst twp). Also surviving are a sister, Mary Swoboda, Cicero, IL; several siblings in Europe; nine grandchildren. Her husband of 47 years, died in April 1959. Her sister Pauline (Joseph) Staszak preceded her in death.

Funeral services are being conducted this Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Georgas Funeral Home in Neillsville, with the Rev. Clyde Hicks of Alma Center, officiating. Burial will be made in the Hatfield Cemetery.
