ELSIE I BERGER
Elsie I Berger, 88, of 216 Sunset Place, Neillsville, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, March 16, 1990 at Neillsville Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home since July 5, 1988.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 19th, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville, with the Rev. Paul N Reede officiating. Burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Janice Mayer, vocalist was accompanied by Sharon Nemitz. Family members and friends served as pallbearers.
Elsie was born June 28, 1901 in the town of Pine Valley, Clark County, to Herman and Amelia (Krueger) Gehrt. She received her education at the Silver Crest School in the town of Pine Valley and then went to Milwaukee to work for a short time. She returned to Clark County and later was married to Arthur R Berger on August 17, 1925 at Winona, MN. He died Feb. 22, 1988.
The couple lived in Wisconsin Rapids and then returned to Neillsville, where they owned and operated the Berger Men’s Wear clothing Store. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Neillsville.
Survivors include a son, Arvid Berger, Neillsville; a sister, Emma Marden, Neillsville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, her parents, a son Robert, two brothers Willie and Otto, and two sisters, Mary and Martha, predeceased Elsie.
