VERA B SHUMWAY

Vera B Shumway of 216 Sunset Place, died on November 29, 1996, at the Neillsville Medical Center Nursing Home in Neillsville, WI.

Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996 at 11 a.m. at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor John Brouwer of the United Methodist Church, Neillsville, officiated. Eileen Zank was the organist. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Vera was born in Clark Co. WI to Edwin and Hattie May (Wells) Lloyd on April 18, 1899. She was educated in the Neillsville area. She married Artemas Shumway on April 21, 1917 in Neillsville. Artemas died in 1936. She worked as a cook in various restaurants in the area and also at the Clark County Hospital in Owen, WI. In her later years, she worked in the kitchen at the Neillsville High School. She retired in 1961. She left Neillsville in 1970 to make her home with her granddaughter and husband. Vera was a member of the United Methodist Church in Neillsville. She was currently a resident of the Neillsville Memorial Home. Vera was best known for her quilt and rag rug making. Many friends and family members were happy recipients of her work.

Vera is survived by two daughters; Mrs. John (Alice) Bilton of Marshfield, WI and Mrs. Edna Wankovich of Burlington, WI; one brother Byno Lloyd of Neillsville, and one sister, Mrs. Paul (Elva) Flint; one granddaughter, Cheryl Strickland of Burlington, WI and two granddaughters by marriage Mrs. Geri Kuehn of Waukesha, WI and Maxine Bilton of Marshfield, WI; three grandsons by marriage and seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Vera was one of eleven children. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sisters: May, Mildred, and Eunice; brothers: Louie, Thomas, Ray, Guy and Calvert, and by one son, Victor.

Gesche Funeral Home assisted Vera’s Family.
