WARD A ‘WARDIE’ LOCKMAN

Ward A Lockman, age 81, Longview, WA, formerly of Neillsville, died April 26, 2003 at his home.

Ward was born July 11, 1920, the son of Ward and Ella (Baumel) Lockman in Neillsville.

He worked in the CC Camps in northern Wisconsin in 1936. In 1943, he went into the U.S. Army and served in Fort Sill, OK and in Louisiana. Ward served in the Asiatic Theatre in Hawaii, New Guinea and the Philippines.

Ward came home and married his childhood sweetheart, Clarice Winter on November 25, 1945. They moved to Washington in 1946. Along with his brother and a friend, they started the Lockman and Taloe Logging business.

He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America, Local 305 and Trinity Lutheran Church. Ward loved babies, animals, his family and friends, fishing, hunting and baking cakes.

Ward was a wonderful storyteller and enjoyed all of his many trips with his family back to his hometown of Neillsville.

Survivors include his wife Clarice of 56 years; daughters LaDonna Hiler, Darlene Anderson, and Carrie Hoffman, all of Washington; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother Loren of Oregon and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ward will be held May 1, at Steele Chapel in Longview, WA with interment at Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
