Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Franklin have returned from Augusta where he had secured employment on a farm. Mr. Franklin found the work too difficult for the condition of his health at the present time, and was obliged to give it up.

C. Houghton has begun the work of remodeling his house on the farm in Houghtonburg. He will take down the west end of the building and rebuild in a different shape. New porches will also be erected and the house made into a more modern farm home.

Frank Washburn is considering himself lucky. He lives in the house on the Francis farm east of town and came near being burned out Wednesday forenoon. Mr. Washburn was helping Henry Hauer cut wood not farm from the house, but their view was partially obstructed by the trees and brush. Mrs. Washburn came to the door to look after a calf that was running in the dooryard, and noticed that a lot of smoke was coming down from the roof of the house. She discovered that the roof was burning and immediately summoned the men's assistance. Together they extinguished the blaze before much damage was done.
