Geo. Phillips was taken to Eau Claire Sunday on No. 7, and was operated on that same evening to remove an abscess from his lungs. He was very low at the time, but since the operation the physicians have hopes of his recovery, although it will be three months before he can leave the hospital. Geo. Woodford, G. T. Staves, Dr. Breakey and Mr. Phillips mother accompanied him to Eau Claire.
E. Washburn went to Augusta Sunday to view the wreck of his son's. Dr. R. B. Washburn's, residence, which was destroyed by fire the Thursday night previous. The fire was discovered about midnight when Dr. and Mrs. Washburn and a sleigh load of friends returned from a party in the county. All turned in to help remove the furniture from the lower floor, but on the second floor the fire had gained such headway that it was impossible to save any wearing apparel or furniture and only the bedding off of one bed was gotten out. The loss is partially covered by insurance but the doctor lost many college and school souvenirs that are not replaceable.
