August F. Walk, a resident of Neillsville for the past 38 years, died Sunday at the State Hospital in Madison where he had been a patient for five weeks following a slight stroke. Mr. Walk, who was born Feb. 9, 1866 at Farmwalde, Germany, coming to America with his parents at the age of 3. The family made its first residence at Farmington, Wis., and later at Jefferson where Mr. Walk attended the public schools.
When 16 years old Mr. Walk had the misfortune to lose his right arm while at work in the Whitewater Paper mill. In his early life Mr. Walk live much of the time with his oldest brothers, Carl. Mr. Walk was the last of four sons. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carl Kunert of Fort Atkinson. Two sisters have preceded him in death.
Mr. Walk in spite of his physical handicap became a successful painter and worked at his trade throughout his residence here. He was a man of a quiet, friendly disposition and well liked by all who knew him. His nearest of kin in Neillsville is John L. Walk, a nephew.
The funeral was held today (Wednesday) from the St. John Lutheran church at 2 p.m., Rev. William Baumann being in charge of the rites.
