The 1971 graduating class of Colby High School held its five year class reunion
Saturday at the VFW Hall in Colby.
Committee members for the reunion were, chairman, Mrs. Jerome (Sally Schultz)
Heindl, Sandra Strathman, Mrs. Ken (Shirley Romens) Koch, Sheila Gorke, Debbie
Rickard and Mrs. Dennis (Jan Hedler) Engel. Dennis Engel served as master of
ceremonies.
Letters were acknowledged by those faculty administration and classmates who
could not attend.
Prizes were given to Marsha (Van Hecker) Ross for being married the longest, the
Dave Marcotts for the newest baby, Loran Schulz for sending in the first
reservation, Dan Skrczkoski for coming the farthest distance, Duane Seefeldt for
the most recently married, Robert Meyers for the longest hair, and Douglas
Kunick for the least hair.

Weix, Mr./Mrs. Albert (40th – 24 Aug 1976)
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weix, Colby, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary
Sunday with a Thanksgiving mass at 9:30, with Father Rushman officiating. Mark
and Darrel Miller, grandsons, were mass servers, Paul Kipp, their son-in-law,
was soloist. The barbershop quartet of Wisconsin Rapids sang several selections.
The Weix’s were married at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Rozellville, with Rev.
Lochnit officiating at the ceremony August 24, 1936.
Attendants from the original wedding mass were present and are Dr. Frank Weix,
Marshfield, Barbara Weix, Colby, and Joe Wilben, Marshfield.
The Weix’s have 10 children. They are: Lynn (Mrs. Arnold Lueth), Sparta; Donna
(Mrs. Duwayne Francen), Luanne (Mrs. Larry Weix), Barbara (Mrs. Paul Kipp),
Diane (Mrs. David Weix), Joe at home; Julianne, Marshfield, (Judy) Mrs. Larry
Gorski, Mosinee.
An open house was held at the Sword in Colby (for about 25 guests from
Dickyville, Marshfield, Pittsville, Sparta, Mosinee, Wisconsin Rapids, Port
Edwards, Colby, Unity and Abbotsford.

Family Reunion (1976)

Seventy-seven persons attended the sixth annual reunion of the Malchow family at
Dorchester Park on August 21, 1976, which began with a potluck dinner at noon.
Herbert Werner was the master of ceremonies of a short program before the noon
meal.
Highlight of the event was the crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Oehler,
Abbotsford, as “King and Queen for the day.” They were presented a corsage and
boutonniere by their grandson, and a plaque which was inscribed “Thank you for
taking the place of our Mother. We love you, Jeff, Mike, Wes, and Rusty.”
Frederick Rau gave the meal prayer.
Mrs. Harold Taylor came dressed as Martha Washington, and several others wore
patriotic colors, and decorations were all in the Bi-centennial theme.
A scrap book compiled by Mrs. Taylor, recording records and pictures of seven
generations of the Malchow family was on display. Only two of the ten original
Malchow children were present. They were: Mrs. Alvina Marlow, Dorchester, and
Mrs. Hugo Zenker, Park Falls. Fred Malchow, the only other living member, is in
Colonial House at Colby.
It was announced that a daughter of the late Walter Malchow, was seriously ill
in a Milwaukee Hospital.
Plans were made to hold another reunion next year on the third Saturday in
August at the Dorchester Park.
Games were played in the afternoon and prizes were awarded.

The 39th annual Merwin family reunion was held Sunday at Oak Island, Wausau.
About 75 relatives attended, including Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Merwin, Fort St.
John, Canada; and Marie Egger, Middle Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada.
President Elmer France called the meeting to order. Reports of family births,
deaths and marriages, etc. were given.
Hazel Remmel read the family history.
Officers re-elected were president, Elmer France; vice president, Llewellyn
Loucks; secretary, Betty Loucks, and treasurer, Lowell Merwin.
Attendance prizes were awarded to David Loucks and Archie Merwin.
The next gathering will be August 28, 1977 at Cherokee Park.

Neuhaus, Malinda (10 Mar 1903 – 26 Aug 1976)
Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, 1976 for Mrs. Malinda Neuhaus, age
73, Abbotsford, at the First United Church of Christ, Colby.
The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix officiated at the 1:30 p.m. rites. Burial followed in
the Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Neuhaus died August 26 at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford.
The former Malinda Volkmar was born March 10, 1903. She married Herbert Neuhaus
at Curtiss in 1934. He preceded her in death.
The couple farmed in the Town of Colby for 12 years, and then moved to
Abbotsford.
Mrs. Neuhaus was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Colby.
She is survived by one son, Oscar, Junction City, and three daughters, Alfred
Volkmar, Owen; Emaline Thede, New Holstein, and Elsie Herrmann, Colby.

Dan’s Service Center, he sells and services trailer towing equipment and
electric brake controls. Miller and his family recently moved to Unity from
Iowa.
