A news item in the July 20, 1905 LOYAL TRIBUNE had this lead:

"Rock Creek the Scene of Great Excitement--Henry Schmitz Nearly Drowned Sunday While Bathing With Companions"

"Henry Schmitz of this city had a narrow escape from drowning last Sunday while bathing near Emmerson's Dam in Rock Creek."

Can anyone tell me where Emmerson's Dam was? An Andrew Emerson is shown in Section 34 on the 1893 plat map for the Town of Beaver. Was there a dam in that section?

And a news item in the June 22, 1905 LOYAL TRIBUNE reads:

"The dam by Graves' Mill which was recently destroyed by high water is now being repaired."

Anyone know where Graves' Mill or the dam was located?

Just recently I learned that Spaulding's Dam was not far from our house in Section 17 of the Town of Beaver on what is now Tom Roth's property. The dam backed up the creek until a raft of logs was ready to be float down the stream. ( According to "Clark County, Illustrated" by Saterlee, Tifft & Marsh, 1890, "The large mills of D. J. Spaulding are located on Black river, about two miles West of the village, in this town (Hixon)."

Notes:

There is a mill in sec 28 T of Beaver on Rock Creek in 1893 Plat book
