Shell, Gust A. (8 NOV 1874 - 23 Mar 1940)
Gustave Carl Shell, 60, died suddenly at about 4:30 o'clock this morning at his home on route 3, Marshfield. Although in poor health the past year due to a heart ailment, he had been able to do light work and had worked on the farm yesterday. He had not complained of illness before retiring last night.
The body will lied in state at the Cooperative Funeral Home here, and funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
The Rev. J. A. Olson, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, will officiate at the rites, and interment will be made in the West Spencer Cemetery.
Mr. Shell, the last in a family of four sons and three daughters, was born in Sweden Nov. 8, 1874. When he was 21 years old he came to this country and settled in Paton, Ill., where he married Miss Ellen Mathilda Watz.
Thirty years ago the Shell family went to Sweden, farming there for three years. Returning to the United States, they settled on a farm in Klondike, and in the spring of 1918 moved to a farm west of Spencer in Clark County, Wis. Since May 1939 the Shell family lived south of Spencer, in Marathon Co.
Surviving are his widow and three sons, Arvid, at home, and twins, Russell, at home and Reuben, Detroit, Mich. Another son, Elmer Leonard, died in infancy.
