Hughes, Nettie (2 MAY 1878 - 23 Jan 1961)

Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. - Funeral services for Mrs. James (Nettie) Hughes, 82, route 2, Granton, Clark County, who died Monday, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Georgas Funeral Home here. The Rev. Virgil Holmes, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The former Nettie Counsell was born May 2, 1878, in Clark County, where she was educated and lived most of her life. She taught school before her first marriage to William Short, who died in 1906. In 1911 she was married to James Hughes who survives her. She was active in church and community affairs, and was a news correspondent in the Ridge area for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William (Helen) Vine, Granton; and Mrs. James (Aileen) Wheatley, Mentor, Ohio; two sons, Eugene Short, Granton; and Donald Hughes, Neillsville; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
