W/Flag NEENAH -Esther Schulze, 86, passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 7, 2005, at her sister's home in Marshfield.
She was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Loyal, daughter of the late Henry and Elise (Brechbuhl) Bloom. Esther graduated from Loyal High School and then put herself through nursing school in Eau Claire. She served the U.S. military effort in the Cadet Corps, which supported our national defense during World War II. Esther worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and then at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. She married Albert Schulze on Nov. 25, 1954, in Chippewa Falls. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2000. Following their marriage, they moved to the Owen/Withee area, where she worked as a home duty nurse. They moved to Neenah in 1959.
Esther enjoyed sewing and knitting, especially making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Her other hobbies were gardening, reading and baking. Cookies and pies were her specialty. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and active in their Mission Circle. She was also a volunteer at Theda Clark Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean (Peter) Pfundtner, Appleton; a sister, Inez Ockershauser, Marshfield; two brothers, Glen (Agnes) Bloom, Loyal, and Clifford (Hissako) Bloom, China; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Lester.
Funeral services for Esther will be at 11 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2005, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Neenah with the Rev. Catherine A.K. Mode officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home and again from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials May be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
