BELVIDERE, Ill./HIXTON, Wis. - Clarence Nettleton, 90, of Belvidere, formerly of Hixton, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at his home. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hixton. Burial will be in Neillsville (Wis.) City Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Clarence Nettleton

April 29, 1913 - October 24, 2003

BELVIDERE, Ill. / HIXTON, Wis. - Clarence Nettleton, 90, of Belvidere, Ill., and formerly of Hixton, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 24, 2003, at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born on April 29, 1913, in Blaine, Ill., to parents Clarence and Mary Nettleton Sr. He graduated from Capron High School in Capron, Ill., in 1931. He married Minnie "Min" O'Brien on Oct. 7, 1944, in Monroe, Wis., and they moved to Hixton in 1948. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1994.

For many years, Clarence and Min owned and operated the Shady Glen Tavern and the Lake Shore Club in Hixton. They retired in 1972.

Clarence was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hixton. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He enjoyed playing euchre at the Belvidere Moose Lodge on Tuesdays. He also liked music and singing.

Clarence is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Wallie) Nettleton of Belvidere, Ill. and Donald Nettleton of Mendota, Ill.; one daughter, Lois (Don) Najdowski of Janesville; one sister, Ruth (Stuart) Cranston of Belvidere; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; besides other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Clarence Nettleton were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hixton, with Reverend Elden Simonson officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Friends called on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Casketbearers were Gary Skaar, John Skaar, Paul Skroch, Roger Stevens and Gaylin West. Honorary bearers were Allan Olson, Lyle West and Ronnie West.

Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

I've often wondered about this obit but this Clarence Nettleton most likely is from a different line of Nettletons. His father Clarence, his father William, his father Danforth, his father Josiah, his father Isaiah. Clarence Nettleton son of Earl Nettleton, grandson of Tiffany Nettleton is found in Kingston, Green Lake Co., in 1900 & 1903 -
