Friday, Spencer police were searching for two men who'd been snooping around
villages businesses.
The two men, meanwhile, were burglarizing the Spencer Police Department. They
appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court Monday on several charges including
burglary.
After the two men were found, officers took them into custody because they
smelled of marijuana and refused to identify themselves. They returned to find
the police station had been ransacked Entry had been gained by breaking a window
and a display case used to show parents confiscated drug users' paraphernalia
was broken. One of the suspects apparently saw the case when he was taken to the
office last week on a traffic charge.
Police Chief William Hoes said discovering the men "was pure luck." He estimated
the damage at $300 to $400.
Both men of Sioux City, Iowa, were charged Monday with, possession of marijuana
and criminal damage to property.
On Sunday, Spencer Police apprehended two girls, ages 13 and 15, also from Sioux
City, Iowa. The girls, believed to be girlfriends of the two men, were taken to
the Marathon County Shelter Home.

Anderson, Delmar (27 March 1936 - 2023) With Flag
Delmar “Del” Anderson, age 87, passed away on April 22, 2023.
Delmar Anderson was born on March 27, 1936, and lived nearly his entire life in
the Owen Withee area. As a boy he spent a good amount of time at his Uncle Bill
Wirtala’s farm, and in high school worked on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Kauno
Niemi, both of which helped him develop a great work ethic and love of the
outdoors. He played center on the high school basketball team, and always
enjoyed watching NBA, college and high school games. Following graduation, Del
served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, toward the end of the Korean War. His Navy
years took him to far flung places such as Alaska, Hong Kong, San Francisco and
the Philippines, and he had great stories about his experiences, such as riding
out a typhoon aboard a ship in the South Pacific.
When he returned from the Navy, Del married Judy Luoma, and they built a family
and home together over 64 years of marriage. The family enjoyed years of
camping, golf, gardening, fishing, and countless gatherings and holidays full of
laughter and good food. Del was an avid hunter and sportsman and bought his last
hunting license at the age of 80. He worked at Badger Shooters Supply in Owen
for decades, then finished his working years at Mall Furniture of Marshfield. He
was very sociable and humorous, and had a good, long life filled with family,
friends, and love. We will miss him dearly.
Del is survived by his wife Judy, Children Jeff (Debbie) Anderson, Peggy (Steve)
Walter, Sarah (Paul) Birschbach, grandkids Eric (Sam) Hill, Jeremy (Phoebe)
Anderson, Peter (Payton) Birschbach and Lily (Samuel Goldberg) Birschbach, great
grandkids, Chloe and Layla Hill, as well as many dear friends and relatives.
In accordance with Del’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A celebration
of life for the family will be held at a later date.
Many heartfelt thanks to the staff at Clark County Living and Rehabilitation for
taking care of Dad during this past year.
