Kohl, Linda (16 March 1984)
Marriage vows were exchanged on March16 between Duane David of Fargo, N.D., and
Linda Kohl of Marshfield. The Rev. Robert Reinhardt officiated at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church ceremonies in Marshfield.
The parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Harold David of Fargo and Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Saibold of Neillsville.
Attending the honored couple were Len and Anita Meysenbourg of Ladysmith.
Following the ceremony, a reception and dinner was held at Fannie’s Supper Club,
Neillsville.
On March 17, the newlyweds and Linda’s son Jeff left for Fargo where they will
make their home. Duane is an administrator of a clinic there.

Lloyd, Tammy Kay (17 March 1984)
Tammy Kay Lloyd and Todd William Gurney were united in marriage on Saturday
afternoon, March 17. The parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lloyd,
Sr., of Rt. 2 Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gurney of rural Black River
Falls. Attorney Norman Saracoff officiated at the civil ceremony in Neillsville.
Attending the couple were Sandy Sischo, a friend of the bride from Neillsville;
and Randy Peterson, a friend of the groom from Neillsville.
Following the exchange of vows, the couple was honored at a reception held at
the Charles Gurney home.
The new Mrs. Gurney is a senior at Neillsville High School and sells Fuller
Brush products. Her husband attended Mineral Point High School. They will make
their home in Neillsville.

DeMert, Eva M. (4 April 1899 – 25 March 1984)
Eva M DeMert, 84, a former area farm wife, died on Sunday evening, March 25, in
Neillsville Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of Neillsville Memorial
Home for the past year.
The deceased was born April 4, 1899, in Adams County to Julius and Sophia (Lund)
Hansen. She received her education there and then worked in a Westfield bakery
until her November 24, 1920, marriage to Walter DeMert in Westfield ceremonies.
The couple then farmed in the Waterloo area. Several years later they moved to
the Loyal area to farm. In 1951 they moved to Milwaukee. Two years after the
1962 death of her husband, Mrs. DeMert returned to Neillsville. She was a member
of St. John’s congregation, the local American Legion Auxiliary and the
Neillsville Grey Ladies.
Surviving her is a son, Darwin, of Paramount, California, a daughter, Mrs. Fritz
(Ardes) Seelow, of Neillsville, eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, besides her husband, are three brothers, two sisters and
one grandson.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 29, from St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Neillsville with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating, and the
burial made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Music at the service was offered
by Beth Tess and Sharon Nemitz. The Pallbearers were Charles and Eugene Battist,
William Neibler, Robert and Dennis DeMert and Arther Lau. The Gesche Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Attending from out-of-town were Mr./Mrs. Charles Battist, Waterloo; Mr./Mrs.
William Neibler, Jefferson; Eugene Battist, Marathon; Mrs. Gust DeMert and
Dennis, Stoughton; Mr./Mrs. William Pierce, Port Edwards; Mr./Mrs. Art Lau,
Stratford; Mr./Mrs. Roger Slater & daughters, Hugo, Minn., Mr./Mrs. Charles
Merdock, Phoenix, Ariz.; Elizabeth Brow and Donna Vondrak & daughters, all of
Friendship, and Darwin DeMert, Paramount, Calif.

Durst, Clara D. (8 August 1896 – 2 April 1984)
Graveside services are to be held this morning, (Thursday, April 5) at the
Neillsville City Cemetery for Clara D. Durst, age 87, who died on Monday
evening, April 2, in Neillsville Memorial Home.
The deceased was born on August 8, 1896, in Germany to Jacob and Josephine
(Sutorius) Sigle. She received her education in that country and in 1937
immigrated to the U.S. On April 19, 1937 she married John Durst in Waukegan,
Illinois, ceremonies. The couple moved to Neillsville where they resided the
rest of their lives. She had been a resident of Memorial Home for the past
several years due to failing health.
Surviving her are three stepsons, Walter Durst and Arno Durst, both of
Neillsville and Alvin Durst of Plymouth; and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Dale (Neoma)
Guthrie of Springfield, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband and a
stepdaughter, Clara.
The Rev. Maynard Stokka of Granton, was to officiate at the service, which was
coordinated by the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. There were no
visitations.

Graves, Darwin (18 June 1924 – 31 March 1984) With Flag
Darwin Graves, 59, of 122 State St., Neillsville, was pronounced dead on arrival
at Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls on Saturday evening, March
31.
Graves was well-known in the Neillsville area. He worked for many years at the
service window of the Neillsville Post Office. He was also considered one of the
area’s premier golfers---the course record is shared by him.
The deceased was born on June 18, 1924, in Marshfield to Arleigh and Loretta
(Behrens) Graves. He attended Marshfield Schools for four years and then
completed his education in Neillsville Schools .In January of 1942, Graves
entered the service as a signalman aboard the Hermitage, a troop transport
serving the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He left the service in October of 1945.
On November10, 1944, Graves married Shirley Austin in Merrillan ceremonies. The
couple then made their home in Neillsville.
Graves worked for the American Stores Dairy for several years and then began his
employment----a position he held for 30 years. He retired on February 24, of
this year due to coronary problems. An active golfer, Graves won the Neillsville
Country Club championship many times. The course record of 32 was his alone for
many years, only to be tied last year. He has served as a board member for the
country club and was also active in the Chippewa Valley Golfers’ Association.
Surviving him besides his wife and mother, are two sons, Craig and Stephen, both
of Neillsville; two daughters, Mrs. William (Linda) Laufenberg and Mrs. Frank
(Mary) Laufenberg, both of Alma Center; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Dixie) Kranz
and Mrs. Arla Hainz, both of Neillsville; and six grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his father; a son, Bradley; and a grandson, Kurt.
Funeral services for Graves were held on Wednesday morning, April 4, from the
Neillsville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Howard Ott officiated with burial
made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.

Putnam, Joseph (28 May 1908 – 31 March 1984) With Flag
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 4, for Joseph Putnam, 75, from
the Humbird United Methodist Church. The Rev. Howard Ott officiated, with burial
made in the Town of Mentor Cemetery. Graveside military rites were offered by
the American Legion.
Putnam, formerly of Westby, died on Saturday, March 31, in a Beaver Dam nursing
home after a long illness. The deceased was born on May 28, 1908, in Humbird to
Ernest and Clara (Bangle) Putnam. He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving him are three sisters, Marie McSchooler of Westby, Dorothy Bohl of
Reedsburg and Clara Primus of Wind Lake. He was preceded in death by bour
brothers and three sisters.
The Kuehl Murray Funeral Home of Reeseville was in charge of arrangements.

Tesmer, Herman L. (17 September 1891 – 28 March 1984) With Flag
Herman L. Tesmer, 92, who was involved in area construction projects for many
years, died on Wednesday, March 28, in Neillsville Memorial Home. He had been a
resident of the Home for the past two years.
The deceased was born on September 17, 1891, in Colby to Paul and Mina
(Hasleigh) Tesmer. He received his education in Colby area schools and then
began his work in the construction business. On July 31, 1917, he married Helen
Nagel in Colby ceremonies. From May of 1918 to March of 1919 he served with the
U.S. Army in Europe.
Upon his return from military service, he worked in the Colby area until 1932
and then moved to the Neillsville area where he farmed in the Town of Weston and
continued with construction work. In 1950 he retired from faming but remained in
the construction business until retiring in 1959. He was a member of St. John’s
congregation and the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are four sons, Robert of Phillips, Eldred of
Spencer, Raymond of Humbird and Milford of Neillsville; 15 grandchildren; and 21
great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy and
several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Monday morning, April 2, from St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff
officiating. Burial was made in the Colby Memorial Cemetery; the Gesche Funeral
Home of Neillsville was in charge of arrangements.

Todd, Russell LeRoy (28 December 1924 – 22 March 1984) With Flag
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 24, for Russell LeRoy Todd, 59,
from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Fremont. Mr. Todd died at his
rural Granton home early Thursday morning, March 22. Cause of death was a
self-inflicted gunshot. The Gilbertson Funeral Home of Granton was in charge of
arrangements with burial being made in the Sherwood Cemetery. The Rev. E. T.
Keller officiated.
The deceased was born on December 28, 1924, in Granton to Andrew and Edith
(Sparks) Todd. He received his education in Granton schools and graduated from
Pittsville High School in 1947. He then was in the military. On June 15, 1957,
he married Ruth Wendt in Marshfield ceremonies.
Todd lived and farmed in the Town of Sherwood all of his life. He worked 37
years for Roddis of Marshfield and Weyerhauser. He was a member of St. Paul’s
congregation.
Surviving him, besides his wife, is a son, Steven, Granton; a daughter, Mrs.
Floyd (Debra) Siemis, Marshfield; a brother, James, Rockford, Illinois; and four
sisters, Mrs. Lyle (Mildred) Cary of Granton, Mrs. Wayne (Elaine) Booth of
Chili, Mrs. Lyle (Maxine Cattanach of Marshfield and Mrs. Edward (Becky) Mueller
of Chili.

Wiesner, Leo F. Sr. (22 December 1912 – 25 March 1984)
Leo F. Wiesner, Sr., 71, a longtime Town of Seif farmer, died at his rural
Neillsville home on Sunday morning, March 25.
The deceased was born on December 22, 1912, in the Town of Hewett to Frederick
and Clara (Baldwin) Wiesner. He received his education in Hewettville School and
then began farming in the Town of Hewett. He worked as a wood pulper for many
years.
On April 1, 1933, he married Neva M. Robb in Neillsville ceremonies. The couple
then made their home in the Town of Seif.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are two sons, Leo, Jr., and Mike, both of
Neillsville, a daughter, Marjorie, at home, a half-sister Hazel Lynch, of
Glendive, Montana; and a half-brother, Raymond Alberts, of Osseo. Joining them
ae five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Florence, Dorothy, Mary,
Loretta and Car4olina; two sons, Dale and Jerry, and a half-brother, Claude.
Funeral services for Wiesner were held on Wednesday afternoon, March 28, from
the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church
of Christ officiated, and burial as made in the Town of Seif cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bertie Schultz, Ray Wetzel, Walter Wetzel, David Hoppa, George
Thoma and Marvin Oldham.
Attending the service from out of town were Raymond Alberts, Osseo; Laurence
Esselman and Mrs. Dale Fravert, both of Loyal, and Alvin Robb, Kenosha.
