CLARION (Dorchester, Clark Co., WI) 12/16/1927 Nelson, Gilbert
(21 OCT 1837 - 10 Dec 1927) Gilbert Nelson,
one of the early settlers in Dorchester, Clark County, Wis.
Country, passed away at his home northeast of the village last
Sunday, Dec. 10, 1927, of apoplexy, at the age of 90 years, 1 month
and 19 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the
Little White Church, Rev. Walter preaching the funeral sermon and
interment was made in the Norwegian Cemetery in the northern part
of the village. Mr. Nelson was
born in Norway on the 21st of October, 1837 where he lived until he
was 3 years of age. He immigrated to the United States in 1871 and
two years later came to Dorchester and acquired the farm on which
he has since resided. In 1882 he was united in marriage (Mary) and
from this union one daughter , Emma, was born, who survives him.
Mrs. Nelson died in 1912 and since that time Mr. Nelson has been a
constant care of his daughter at the farm home. Mr. Nelson was a
quiet, retired personage who preferred the home solitude to company
and rarely mingled with the neighbors. He never held a public
office. He was very handy at carpenter work. Miss Emma, so far
as is known the sole surviving relative, has the sympathy of the
entire community in this time of bereavement. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
