Clark Co., WI) 02/15/1929 Schiebe, Lina (17 OCT 1879 - 6 Feb 1929) Dorchester friends
were much saddened to hear that Mrs. Chas. Schiebe had passed away
at her home in the town of Holton Saturday, Feb. 6th, 1929,
following a week’s illness with general peritonitis, at the
age of 49 years, 4 months. The funeral services were held Tuesday
afternoon at the home at 1 o’clock and at 2 p.m. at the
Evangelical Peace Church, Rev. Bizer officiating and she was laid
at rest in the Peace Church Cemetery north of town, George Empey,
Herman Johnson, Fred Ridderbush, Lawrence Metz, Louis Peekham and
John Zahorka acting as pallbearers. The Ladies Aid, of which she
was a faithful member, sang a little farewell service for her at
the church and presented a lovely bouquet through the pastor. She
was elected their Vice President to succeed Mr. Fern Werner but
owing to illness in the family and then her own, she hadn’t
been installed. How beautifully
ended a wonderfully useful life, right in the midst of it all, not
when she was of no more use here, but when she was doing the
needful home duties, the beloved church duties for she was a loved
member of the Peace Church and Aid, and with a sigh she laid them
down to enter the fuller, finer life over there for she had nearly
more friends over there than here. Lina Rachow, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rachow, was born in Treptow, Germany,
Oct. 17, 1879. There were 12 children in the family, 10 of them
dying when very young, one when Lina was 9 years old. Her mother
died when she was 7 and when she was 15 her father passed away,
leaving her alone in Germany, for her only living brother had gone
to the United States. So thought only a child, she took the long
journey alone to be with her brother. She came to Milwaukee and in
1900 she was married to Fred Rankl. Two children were born to them,
Ferdinand, dying in infancy and Clarence, who survives her. In 1912
her only surviving brother passed away, In 1913 she
married Chas. Schiebe at Milwaukee, where they lived until 1916
when they came to his farm in the town of Holton. Two daughters,
were born to them, Caroline, aged 13, and Marion, aged 11, who with
their father and brother, Clarence, survive her. She was taken ill
a week before she died and was very ill from the first and for five
days and nights. Miss Olive Peckham, trained nurse, never relaxed
her vigilance, but in spite of all care and medical skill she
passed away on Saturday. Thus a brave
spirit passed on, for in spite of all the sorrow she had seen, she
was as cheery and sweet a lady as one could find anywhere and it
did one good just to chat with her for a little while. She will be
much missed by us all, as well as those dear ones whose hearts are
left so desolate by her going. May our Heavenly Father comfort them
as only He can is one sincere wish and that of their many
friends. The relatives from
away who were her for the funeral were Peter Thompson, Mrs. Ida
Shramm and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schuh, all of Milwaukee. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
