Hallwachs, Elaine A. (7 Nov. 1921 - 16 April 2005)

Elaine A. Hallwachs, 83, formerly of 816 Security Drive, Fond du Lac, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Lincoln House, where she had resided for the past two years.

Elaine was born on Nov. 7, 1921, in Curtis, Wis., Clark County, the daughter of Engman and Mabel Smith Gilbertson.

On April 18, 1945, she married Walter Hallwachs in Appleton. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1995.

Elaine worked as a sales clerk for W.I. Grant in Milwaukee for 27 years. She has been a Fond du Lac resident since 1976, and prior to that she resided in Milwaukee. She was a member of the Church of Peace, United Church of Christ, and she volunteered at the Fond du Lac Senior Center, where she called bingo. Elaine enjoyed reading, crosswords, bird watching and rides through the park. For 15 years Elaine claimed she had the best of both worlds, Florida in the winter and Wisconsin in the summer.

Survivors include three sisters, Janet White of Fond du Lac, Phyllis Jahns of Fond du Lac and Le Moine (James) Marco of Rosendale; and one brother, Harold (Carol) Gilbertson of Appleton. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Walter; one sister, Marjorie; and two brothers-in-law, Melvin "Butch" Jahns and Gerald "Jerry" White.

Services: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park. The Rev. Sharon Stier will officiate. Cremation will take place after the traditional services, with inurnment at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum.

Visitation: Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.

Memorials are appreciated to Lincoln House or Hospice Hope.
