Stannard, William (1843? - 30 Mar 1879)

Died on Sunday, March 30th, 1879, in the town of Holeton, Marathon Co., of consumption, Mr. William Stannard, aged 35 years.

William W. Stannard was born in Genesco, N.Y., in which place he resided until the year 1866, when he came to Wisconsin and settled in Portage Co.; in 1873 he came to the town of Holeton, Marathon Co., and took up a homestead, upon which he resided until the time of his death. About two years ago Mr. Stannard became afflicted with that dread disease, consumption, after trying various remedies in vain, he took a trip into Iowa last fall, where he remained for a time and returned seemingly better, but during the latter part of the winter he began failing and it was a rapid decline from that time to the day of his death.

Mr. Stannard was an honest and upright citizen, a man of sterling qualities, respected by all who knew him, and his loss will be deeply felt in the community in which he lived.

The funeral took place at the late residence of the deceased, and the remains brought to Colby Cemetery for interment, the burial services being performed by Rev. J. Dix.

The deceased leaves a wife and four children to mourn the loss of a kind and endearing husband and father.
