Henkel, Augusta (25 Jul 1875 - 6 JUN 1957)

Colby, Wis. - Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Lulloff Funeral Home here for Mrs. Augusta Henkel, 81, a former resident of Colby, who died Thursday morning of a stroke at San Diego, Calif., where she had lived for the past two years.

The Rev. Roger Knutsen, pastor of Colby Methodist Church, will officiate, and burial will follow in the Colby Cemetery.

The former Augusta Fuhrman was born July 25, 1875 in Germany, and came to the United States as a child. She was married to Gus Henkel in 1891 in Maryland. They lived on a farm in the town of Hull, Marathon Co. for 25 years, moving to the city of Colby about 1916. In 1944 they removed to Stevens Point, where Mr. Henkel died in 1948.

Survivors are four sons, Wallace, New York City; George, Sydney, Mont.; Robert, La Jolla, Calif.; and Jack, Eureka, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Alvina) Elkins and Mrs. A. A. (Melinda) Johnson, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Fred (Lucille) Hockmuth, Pelican Lake; Mrs. A. S. (Ida) Phipps, Ironwood, Mich.; and Mrs. Russell (Mae) Arts, San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Lena Podevels, Colby; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
