Meyers, Leneil 'Mike' Stuart (1 July 1931 - 2 May 2005)

GREENWOOD -Leneil "Mike" S. Meyers, 73, of Greenwood died Monday, May 2, 2005, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Terri Blomberg will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Holly Dillenbeck, Kim Esselman, Ben Hansen, Luke Schmidt, Ryan Esselman, Chelsea Schmidt, Bob Dillenbeck and Brandon Abel. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Turnquist, Buck Jolivette, Wayne Benson and Earl Caliebe.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

Leneil Stuart Meyers was born July 1, 1931, in Coleman, the son of William and Emma (Paul) Meyers. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Coleman area, graduating from Coleman High School in 1949. Mike then enrolled at UW-Oshkosh, where he majored in mathematics and minored in English. He later completed his fifth year and received his master's degree. Mike was united in marriage to Lois Wolf on April 24, 1953, in Oshkosh. They lived in Markesan for three years, where he taught school and then moved to Greenwood in 1956. His wife, Lois, died on Feb. 5, 1984. Mike taught mathematics and computers at the Greenwood High School until retiring in 1986. He was united in marriage to Lenore Kamps on May 16, 1992, in Shawano. They resided in Greenwood. His wife, Lenore, died on Dec. 26, 1994. Mike continued to live in Greenwood until the time of his death.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council as president, treasurer and as an auditor, a charter member of the Greenwood Lions Club, a lifetime member of the National Education Association and volunteered to help line up parade entries and work the foodstand during Greenwood Dairy Days. Mike had many interests but especially enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing, softball, gambling and playing cribbage and sheepshead.

He will be sadly missed by four daughters, Joan (Harvey) Hukari of San Francisco, Fern (Dave) Hansen of Greenwood, Cindy (Dave) Esselman of Loyal and Julie (Scott) Schmidt of Neillsville; six grandchildren, Holly (Bob) Dillenbeck of Mosinee, Kim Esselman (fiance, Brandon Abel) of Loyal, Ben Hansen of Eau Claire, Luke Schmidt of Neillsville, Ryan Esselman of Loyal and Chelsea Schmidt of Neillsville; two sisters, Beverly (Bob) Nyberg of Hayward and Glorianne (Mike) Whitcomb of Marinette; and one brother, Kenneth (Ullainee) Meyers of Kalamazoo, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Lois and Lenore; and one brother, Duane Meyers.
