Schuman, Bertha (15 OCT 1861 - 9 JUN 1955)

Colby, Wis. - Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Green Grove, Clark Co., Wis. for Mrs. August Schuman, 93, who died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday at her home. The Rev. August William Sarembs will officiate and burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Schuman, formerly Bertha Laux, was born Oct. 15, 1961, in the town of Scheberg, Manitowoc Co.. On May 6, 1884, she was married in the town of Herman, Sheboygan Co. to August Schuman, whose death occurred March 1930.

Immediately after their marriage the couple came to Colby and carved a farm out of the wilderness.

Mrs. Schuman is survived by three children, Mrs. Louis Dins, Mrs. Lydia Frome and Fred Schuman, all of Colby; a brother, Peter Laux, town of Scheberg, 19 grandchildren, which includes Mrs. Lawrence Krueger, 208 S. Cedar Ave.; 30 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Three children, four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home until Sunday noon, when it will be taken to the church to be in state until services.
