Steffen, Emil (7 APR 1878 - 21 OCT 1964)

Colby, Wis. - Emil Steffen, 86, route 2, Colby, Wisconsin, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at his home in the town of Colby, Clark Co.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riplinger. The Rev. M. L. Yonker will officiate, and burial will be made in the Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield.

The body will repose at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby until the time of services.

Emil Steffen was born April 7, 1878, in Bern, Switzerland, and came to the United States at the age of 23 years. He lived in Green Co. and was married to Lena Hahn Nov. 7, 1914, at Monroe, Wis.

They moved to the town of Beaver in Clark Co., where they farmed until 13 years ago, when they moved to their present farm.

In addition to his wife, he leaves six daughters, Mrs. Henry (Helen) Schuh, Curtiss; Mrs. Charles (Irene) Wittlinger, Amery; Mrs. Jack (Rose) Dumler, Riplinger; Mrs. Walter (Caroline) Boettcher, Stratford; Mrs. Orlo (Iris) Furman, Loyal; and Mrs. James (Allaire) Hallowell, Loyal; two sons, Emil Steffen, Milwaukee; and Harry Steffen, Antioch, Ill.; a sister, Miss Louise Steffen, New York; a brother, Gottlieb Steffen, Bern, Switzerland; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
