Miller, Tony (1911? - 1934)

The final tragic chapter in the life of Tony Miller, whose last milestone in his 22 years of life was traveled along a desolated trail of pauperism and sickness, will be written this afternoon (Wednesday) when his body is lowered to forgetfulness in the little cemetery at the county farm.

Tony, a victim of diabetes, died Monday morning in the jail where he had been lodged Sunday after a complaint was made to the sheriff that he had become a nuisance at a place in Chili where he had been given refuge recently, having arrived there Friday. Although showing no symptoms of serious illness at the time he was place in jail, food he previously had eaten, which contained an excess of sugar, soon reduced him to a coma. Sheriff Olson called Dr. E. L. Bradbury, but medical assistance was unavailing.

Having at one time been an inmate of the county farm it devolved upon the county to bury him when relatives stated they had no funds with which to defray the cost of a funeral. Tony, it is said, formerly lived at Withee, but his parents are dead. For a time he was a patient at the General Hospital and later in Neillsville Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. from the Schiller Funeral home, Father Peter Weber conducting the rites. A brother and sister, M. J. Miller and Miss Lena of Milwaukee and a sister, Mrs. Archie Hulpert of Cornell were here for the services.
