Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The American Legion Post No. 54 will conduct military honors. Friends May call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Hansen Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the church.

Ansel was born April 11, 1919, in Sycamore, Ill., a son of the late Par Alfred and Anna (Christensen) Peterson. The family moved to Beaver, where he attended elementary school. He learned the trade of machinist at a local company and later moved to Milwaukee.

Ansel was united in marriage to the former Lucille Dorn of Loyal on Jan. 15, 1944, in Milwaukee. Lucille preceded Ansel in death in 1997. Shortly after his marriage Ansel was drafted in the army. He received his infantry training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and was sent to Italy, where he served with the 10th Mountain Division during World War II.

Following his discharge in 1946, he and Lucille moved to New Lisbon and then to Spencer before settling in Marshfield in 1948.

Ansel worked for Mobil Oil and then Swift & Company. The couple operated Peterson Aluminum Sales from 1962 until his retirement in 1981.

They began trailer camping in the late 1950s and cherished the many friendships they made over the years. In retirement, the couple enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida, Arizona and southern California during the winter months.

Ansel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post No. 54, Disabled American Veterans and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ansel is lovingly survived by his son, Dean Peterson, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and daughter, Dorene (Richard Jr.) DeJarlais, Marshfield; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Andy) Merkel, Temecula, Calif., and Krista, Bryan and Lee of Marshfield. Two sisters, Mae Bates, Peshtigo, and Leah Schwartz , Green Bay, further survive Ansel.

One sister, Rosamond, and one brother, Lester, preceded Mr. Peterson in death.

Memorials in Mr. Peterson's name May be designated to Faith Lutheran Church or the American Legion Post No. 54.
