Johnson, Marlin ( 6 Aug. 1927 - 24 April 2005)

Marlin "Gene" Johnson, age 77, lifelong Stanley area resident passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley, Wis. A Christian burial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military graveside rites being performed by the Stanley VFW Post 2711. Friends and family May call on Wednesday evening, April 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral Chapel in Stanley.

Gene was born August 6, 1927, in the town of Worden, Clark County, Wis., the son of George and Bessie (Robinson) Johnson. He grew up in the area and attended area schools, graduating from the Stanley High School in 1945. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1947. Gene was then united in marriage to Phyllis Henke on June 14, 1951, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Stanley. They resided and farmed in the town of Worden and Gene also worked at the Blue Moon Cheese Factory in Thorp.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Stanley; and his four sons, Dale (Charlene) of Stanley, Dean of Eau Claire, Dennis (Jane) of Stanley and Glen (Cindy) of Altoona; nine grandchildren, Kellie Johnson, Carrie Sayles, Amy Cross, Luke, Cody and Jared Johnson, Rachel Olson, and Hannah and Heather Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Brittney, Thomas and Dale; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Haas and Donald Nolan; and two sisters-in-law, Lucy Haas and Mary Henke; several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie; and his sister, Doris Nolan.

In his spare time Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He was an active member of the Stanley Rod & Gun Club, the Stanley Sno Chargers, the Stanley VFW Post 2711 and the Stanley American Legion.
