Lato, Vincent J. (16 July 1915 - 30 April 2004)
STANLEY __Vincent J. Lato, 88, former resident of the Gilman area who has recently been residing in Stanley, passed away at his home on Friday, April 30, 2004.
He was born July 16, 1915, in Thorp, the son of Felix and Josephine (Budzinski) Lato. He grew up in the Thorp area and after attending school he worked in Chicago at the Illinois Iron Co., International Harvester and Crane Co. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served his country on the U.S.S. Philadelphia from Nov. 28, 1939 to Dec. 9, 1945.
Vincent was united in marriage to Adeline Przybylski in May of 1949 and they lived and farmed in the Gilman area from 1945 to 1978. While farming, he also worked for American Motors and A.O. Smith. In 1955 he started selling silos for Madison Silo and later for Westman Silo for approximately 20 years. Until his recent illness, he drove truck for Thorp Equipment.
He is survived by: seven sons, Frank (Nancy) Lato of Gilman, Lewis (Theresa) Lato of Orange Grove, Iowa, Steve Lato of Stanley, Ronald Lato of Reno, Nev., Michael (Laura) Lato of Hannibal, N.Y., Dennis (Gaybee) Lato of Miami, Fla., and Leon (Rosemary) of North Las Vegas, Nev.; his brother, Joe (Agnes) of Thorp; four sisters, Rose Long of Stanley, Anne Zajack of Thorp, Mary Grabowski of Gilman, and Nellie Purkopile of Marshfield; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Erma; one son, Edward; two brothers, Stanley and Paul; one sister, Stella; and brothers-in-laws, John Grabowski, Chet Zajack and Bill Long.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 5 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman, with Fr. Phillip Juza officiating. Inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends May call from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church on Wednesday.
Plombon Funeral Service is in charge of making arrangements.

The Edward John Lato who died in Madison was he the son of Vincent Lato in Gilman.
