Davis, William John (25 May 1864 - Oct. 27 1934)
William John Davis, son of William and Elizabeth Davis was born on a farm near Wauwatosa. At 19 consin, on May 25, 1864, and died at his farm home north of Granton on Saturday, **November 27, 1934, aged 70 years, 6 months and 2 days.
Mr. Davis’ early life was spent in the vicinity of Wauwatosa. At 19 years of age he went to Sheboygan where he secured employment, and later worked in the city of Milwaukee.
On April 26, 1892, he was married to Miss Abbie Elizabeth Arthur of Sheboygan, and together they set up house keeping in Milwaukee. To this union 4 children were born, Roy Arthur who was deceased in 1904; Jean Marguerite, Mrs. E. A. Bennett of Neenah, Wisconsin; Sarah Mae, now at home; and Ursula Elva, Mrs. Joseph Sommers of Granton.
Following several years of work in Milwaukee in the dairy business, and three years employment with E. P. Allis Company of West Allis. Mr. Davis moved with his family to Sheboygan County, where he bought a farm and resided for about six years.
In the year 1906, this farm was sold, and the Davis’ came to Clark County and bought a farm in the Town of York, now known as the Louis Nowack farm. Here the family lived for about 15 years. At the end of this time they moved to Granton which was their home for about two years.
In the year 1923 Mr. Davis bought the farm which has been his home until the present time.
For the last few years, Mr. Davis’ health has not been good, and for the last two years and one-half, he has been an invalid. Gradually his vitality has been broken down, and finally he was called to join the company of those who live in the land of eternal day.
Mr. Davis was active in the life of the community, serving as Clerk of the School Board in his District and as Pres. Of the County Holstein Association.
He was a member of the Methodist Church for 42 years and a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge.
He was a good husband, father, friend and neighbor.
He is survived by his wife and 3 children named above, by 3 brothers, Frank of Milwaukee; Harry of Plymouth, Wis.; and Guy of Yakima, Wash.; by 2 sisters, Mrs. Mae Butters of Coldwater, Mich.; and Mrs. Dells Curtis of Monroe, Wis.; and by 2 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Granton on Monday afternoon, Oct. 29th, at 2 o’clock, the Rev. F. B White officiating, and burial took place at Hingham in Sheboygan County.
