Wood, Mary (1857 - 25 Oct. 1934)
Mrs. L. W. Wood of Owen, for several years a resident of Neillsville died suddenly at her home in Owen, Thursday, Oct. 25, aged 77 years.
Mrs. Wood whose maiden name was Mary Day, was born at Sullivan, Wis., in 1857. The family moved to Eau Claire, and later to Augusta. In December 1884, she was married to L. W. Wood, Principal of Augusta high school. In 1898 they moved to Neillsville, where Mr. Wood became superintendent of Neillsville Schools. In 1909, two years after Mr. Wood became assistant State Superintendent, the family moved to Appleton, living there until 1914, when they moved to Owen which remained their home until the present time. Mrs. Wood was a lady of quiet home loving character, and was much like by all who knew her. During the war and later she was active in Red Cross work and was of great service to the community and country in this work.
She is survived by her husband and four children: Neva, Mrs. J. N. Flesher of Long Beach, Calif.; William Wood of Neillsville; Avada, Mrs. Morton Nichols, Oshkosh; Fred Wood at home. She leaves also five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Owen Monday, Rev. Powell of the Congregational Church officiating.
