"Old Timers" Return
Two of Neillsville’s pioneers, M. A. Hanson, Menomonie, and L. J. Hanson, Eau Claire, brothers, returned to this city Tuesday to view their boyhood home and look up their old friends. These men, who were school mates of George Sontag, S. F. Hewett and others, left Neillsville 55 years ago and have been back only once in that time and then only for a few hours.
Their father was H. D. Hanson, a tailor, who ran a shop where Marsh’s store is now located. They first attended school in the P. S. Dudley harness shop building west of Marsh’s store and later in a blue school house erected where the present old south side school building now stands.
M. A. Hanson entered the postal service at Menomonie soon after leaving here and with 50 years of service became the oldest postal worker in the state. He retired two years ago.
L. J. Hanson got into the hardware business in Eau Claire, running a store 21 years until he sold out and retired 13 years ago. The Hanson, brothers put up at the Merchants’ hotel during their stay here, leaving Wednesday afternoon. They enjoyed their visit thoroughly and vowed they are going to do their best to come back here at the end of another 50 years.
