Raether, Velda M. (Marriage - 21 Aug. 1934)
A unique and beautiful outdoor wedding took place at the Kramer-Davey cottage down the Chippewa River, Tuesday, August 21, at 5:00 o’clock, when Miss Velda M. Raether, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott H. Raether, of the town of Brunswick and Samuel M. Davey, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Davey, of Eau Claire, were united in marriage.
The bride and groom descended the steps of Mrs. Kramer’s cottage to the strain of Lohengren’s wedding march, played by Mrs. Fred Beigle on the organ, which was moved outside for the occasion. The Reverend E. R. McKinney awaited them at the altar where, just as the sun set, the simple and beautiful ceremony took place.
Immediately following the ceremony, the bridal couple with their guests were seated at the long table decorated with flowers from the gardens, at the Davey cottage where the wedding super was served.
The bride wore the groom’s mother’s wedding dress with a veil, just as his mother had worn it 22 years ago, as the day was Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Davey’s 22nd wedding anniversary.
The bride was formerly of Neillsville and was popular with the young set there. She has spent the last four summers there with her sister, Mrs. Arthur Gress.
The young couple will be home at 623 Broadway after September 15.
The out of town guests included Reverend Mr. E. R. Kinney, of Belvidere, Illinois, who for many years was pastor and friend of the family. Also Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gress and sons, Neillsville, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Merwin Sea and son, Town of Brunswick; Mr. and Mrs. Scott H. Raether and family, Town of Brunswick.
