Services for August F. Selk, 78, Neillsville, will be Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be made in the Neillsville Cemetery. Mr. Selk died of cancer Saturday morning at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Selk was born at Beecher, Ill., May 9, 1897. He was married July 2, 1924, to Lillian Albrecht, and they operated a hardware store in Chili from 1925 to 1930. He then purchased the Standard Oil Bulk Station at Neillsville, which he operated for 12 years. In 1942, they moved to Texas where he managed the furniture department for Montgomery Ward at Harlingen, Texas for a year.
In 1944, he joined the Northern Auto Supply Co., Marshfield, as a salesman, and worked at Wisconsin Rapids for two years before being transferred to Neillsville. He retired in 1962.
Mr. Selk had served with the United States Army in France during World War I.
Mr. and Mrs. Selk celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1974.
He is survived by his wife; a son James Selk, Madison; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Luella) Beck, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Al (Minnie) Rab, Chicago Heights, Ill.

Family Note:
A freind years ago sent me some hand written info from the Beecher herald with a reference to a William Selk died May-23-1924 who was a brother to Henry and John(my greatgrandfather) of Beecher, IL and Fred Selk of Chili, WI. They were all sons of Carl Selk and Elizabeth Heldt-Selk.

Selk, August F. (9 May 1897 – 20 December 1975)
Funeral services were held December 23 from Calvary Lutheran Church for August
F. Selk, 78, of Neillsville, who died December 20. The Rev. Ronald Nordin
officiated, and burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Arrangements
were made by the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home.
Pallbearers for Mr. Selk were Arlo Clausen, Joe Ylvisaker, Kenneth Olson,
Francis Laatch, W.H. Allen and Jim West.
Wilfred Galstad sang “Spirit of God” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Mrs. Dee Schoor
was the accompanist.
Among those attending the services were the following from out of town: H.L.
Albrecht, Dayton, Oh.; Mrs. Rowene Tanner, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Ylvisaker, Stoughton; Mr. and Mrs. Don Beck and Mr. and Mrs. Bob LaFave,
Milwaukee; Kareen Duschel, Waupun; Mr. and Mrs. O. Evanson, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs.
Merlin Muir, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schmidt, Paul E. Komis and Wm. Wilsman,
Marshfield.
