Prior, Julia V. (2 MAY 1852 - 10 Mar 1931)
Mrs. Julia V. Prior, died at her home in this village March 10, 1931, after an illness of a week, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 8 days.
Julia Bartholomew, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bartholomew was born May 2, 1852 at Lowell, Dodge County, in which her parents were pioneers. Coming from Ohio.
She received her education in the District Schools of Lowell and taught for 5 years in Reeseville and that vicinity.
On June 8, 1881 she was united in marriage to Albert K. Prior, and in May the following year they came to the town of Sherman, where they purchased a farm 4 miles east of Loyal.
Here they lived for 6 years when they moved to Loyal, which has been Mrs. Prior’s home since, with the exception of a few years spent at Wauconda, Ill. Mr. Prior died in 1902.
The deceased is survived by two sons, Ray A. of Loyal, Eugene H. of Wauconda, Ill., a daughter Elma at home, a step daughter, Mrs. Jennie Nashold, Fall River, Wis., one brother Ed Bartholomew, Portland, Oregon, one sister, Mrs. Dora Randall, Oakland, Iowa, 15 grand children, 5 great grandsons, besides other relatives and a host of friends. The oldest daughter, Mrs. Ethel Faulks died in 1920.
Mrs. Prior was converted when a girl and has lived a consistent Christian life, as a member of the M. E. church for about 60 years. She took an active interest in the church, Sunday School and Ladies Aid, having held different offices in the later society. Another interest dear to the heart of Mrs. Prior was the work of the Woman’s Relief Corps, an auxillary to the Grand Army of the Republic of which Mr. Prior was a member. She was of a retiring nature but had a cheery disposition that made friends of all who met her, and quiet sincerity attached her closest acquaintances to her with enduring bonds of friendship. Although naturally of a home loving disposition, through her keenness and alertness of mind she kept in touch with the progress of events of both the state and nation.
The funeral services were held at the home on Thursday afternoon, March 12, at 2:30. the pastor Rev. V. C. Kegley officiating. The male quartette sang the following selections " The Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me."
Beautiful and numerous floral pieces showed the love and esteem in which the departed one was held. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Loyal Cemetery.
