Horn, Harold (4 OCT 1916 - 23 JUN 2005)

Harold L. Horn, 88, Greenwood, died Thursday, June 23, 2005, after complications from a stroke, at the Colonial Center, Colby, with his family at his side. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 27, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. The Rev. Mark Schwinn officiated. Honorary pallbearers were his nephews.

Harold L Horn was born Oct. 4, 1916, in the town of Warner, to Otto and Ida (nee Ebert) Horn. He ran the family farm until his marriage to Esther Tesmer on July 20, 1941. They moved and farmed in Greenwood. Together they had two children, Eunice and James. In 1960, they moved into town and operated the root beer stand and later on the north side of town, built and operated the Edgetown Drive-In until 1975. During that time he was also employed by Grassland Dairy, where he worked for more than 20 years. Afterlosing his first wife, he remarried in 1970, to Arvilla Wessel. Together they lived in Greenwood and operated Horn’s Lunch Wagon. She passed away in 1991 He was involved in the church cemetery council, Rock Dam Rod and Gun Club, and Modern Woodmen of America. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, bowling, dancing traveling the country, working in his woods, making maple syrup, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful person with a big heart and will be missed dearly by family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Eunice Schubert, Oconomowoc; his son, James (Dolores) Horn, Greenwood; his step son, Allen (Ellen) Wessel, Madison; one brother, Glenn (Jeannette) Horn, Thorp; three granddaughters, Jody (Marty) Duffett, Appleton, Michelle (Dale) Walde, Greenwood, and Kristin Horn, Greenwood; step-grandchildren, Scott Wessel, Minnesota, Amanda Wessel, Madison, and Jonathon Wessel, Madison, and three great-grandchildren, Shawn Kobs, Appleton, Kelei Kobs, Appleton, and Bryce Walde, Greenwood.

Preceding him in death were his wives, Esther and Arvilla; his parents, Otto and Ida; and one sister, Lorinda Wessel.

In lieu of flowers, the family is putting together a memorial in his memory to be determined at a later date.
