Lemke, Bertha (1 AUG 1860 - 12 JUN 1888)
Died, in this town (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), on Tuesday, June 12th, 1888, of consumption, Bertha W. A. Lemke, aged 27 years, 10 months and 12 days.
Deceased was born in Germany, Aug. 1st, 1860, came to the United States with her parents in 1867. When about 9 years old she became deaf, in consequence of an attack of scarlet fever, and shortly after lost her speech. She was educated in the asylum for deaf mutes, at Delavan, where she learned to read and write. Her father being dead, she and her mother came, a short time ago, to reside with her brother-in-law. She was buried in the Colby Cemetery, Thursday, June 14th, from the Lutheran Church, Rev. Fr. Otte, officiating.
