Vaughan, Mr. (1804 - 23 NOV 1888)

On Friday, Nov. 23rd, 1888, the Methodist Episcopal Church of Unity, sustained the loss by death of its oldest member, Mr. Vaughan, Sen. Death took place at his son’s residence west of Unity, Wis.. Deceased was 84 years of age, was born at Plattsburg in 1804, was there at the time of that memorable battle of 1814. In 1853 he lost his wife. Removed to New York State in 1859, thence to Sun Prairie, Wis. in 1867, coming on to Unity in 1880. He had spent a very uneventful life; for the last 30 years quite a cripple from rheumatism. Thus one by one they ?? the church militant to the church triumphant and leaves us to mourn, but not as those without hope. Funeral services conducted by the pastor on Sunday, Nov. 26th, sermon from combined texts John 9:4 and Rev. 21:25. The service was made very impressive by the efficient singing both at the church and at the grave. A goodly number were present to pay their last respects to the deceased, and express their sympathy with surviving friends.

Hello,

I love all the obituaries you have put on your site!  They are wonderful. Regarding "Mr Vaughan", this is Francis Bowen Vaughan who was married to Charity Shaw.  He was my second great grand uncle. Charity actually died 1856, not 1853, but would be nice if you could notate who this obit is for.

Thank you for all the work,
Cheryl Richardson
