Mary M. Sternweis, 87, Marshfield, died on Friday, July 29, 2005, at Lighthouse Elder Care, Marshfield. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Bernard Raschke officiated. Music was provided by Suzanne Golden, organist and Michael Gonering, vocalist. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Randy Hildebrandt, Bill Downing, Josh Downing, Pat Perner, Christopher Sternweis, Tim Sternweis, Matthew Sternweis, Jeremy Sternweis and Adam Sternweis.

Mary M. Brandl was born on Aug. 3, 1917, in Milladore, to Charles and Theresa (nee Tremel) Brandl. She attended St. Killian’s School in Blenker. She lived on Mayflower Road in Blenker, where their dad built their home from his own logs. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a maid and nanny for Dr. Copps in Marshfield and also did home care. She married Leo J. Sternweis on June 30, 1942, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Milladore. He died on May 21, 1990. He bought the Glenco Guernsey Dairy Farm in the fall of 1941, and later added beef cattle operation. They founded Sternweis Trucking and in 1972. with their family started Sternweis& Sons, Inc. The corporation purchased the Owen Block Co. and founded Sternweis & sons Block Division in 1974. They added their own crushing and washing operation in the town of Warner, Clark County I 1980. Besides being a homemaker, she did the bookkeeping for the family businesses. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. She was famous for her peanut butter bars, along with other special recipes. She loved vegatable and flower gardening, crocheting and making 39 afghans for her family members.

Survivors include five daughters, Ruth (Michael) Hildebrandt, Chili, Mary (Jeffrey) Kollmansberger, Chili, Charlotte (Darrel) Downing, Gilbert, Ariz., Margaret (Gerald) Perner, Lake Tomahawk, and Donna (Ronald) Martin, Marshfield; one son, Glen (Barbara) Sternweis, Marshfield; a daughter-in-law, Kerene J. (Gary) Schiller, Marshfield; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leo; three sons, Jeffrey, on June 20, 1966, Gary, on Feb. 15, 1973, and Eugene, on Nov. 20, 1991; one brother, Charles Brandl; one sister, Theresa Dieringer; and a daughter-in-law, Christine Eul.

She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
