Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 07/18/1889 Penney, William O.
(14 Feb 1851 - 16 Jul 1889) Wm. O. Penney died
at his residence in this village (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), the
night of July 16th, 1889, of cancer of the stomach and liver. Mr.
Penney was born at Carbonear, Newfoundland, Feb. 14th, 1851, and
was consequently 38 years and 5 months old. June 2nd, 1875, he was
united in matrimony with Miss Emma Thistle at Carbonear; they
shortly after came to Wisconsin and settled in Columbia Co., and in
Sept. 1880, removed to this place. During his residence here Mr.
Penney has been known as an honest and industrious citizen, quiet
and unassuming in his ways. At the early age of 16 years he
embraced religion and became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist
Church at Carbonear. After his arrival here he became a member of
the M. E. Church, in which he was one of the most earnest workers,
up to the time of his sickness. He was a sincere and devout
Christian and said, just previous to his death, that he was
prepared to go when the Master called. He leaves to mourn his loss
a wife, a son and a daughter, one daughter having died about four
years ago. The funeral occurs this afternoon and will be conducted
by Rev. G. R. Chambers, assisted by Rev. J. Dix. Mr. Penney
suffered terribly yet patiently the last two months of his life,
but the loved ones who are left to mourn the loss of a husband and
parent have the sweet consolation of knowing that his sufferings
are over, that he has gone to a home where all is peace and rest.
