Wagner, Joseph (1812 - 2 Sep 1890)
Argus, Beaver Dam, Wis.
Died, at his home in this city, Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1890, Mr. Joseph Wagner, of general debility, aged 78.
The deceased was born near Kelheim in Bavaria in 1812. He came to this country in 1853 and directly to Beaver Dam. Soon after his arrival he married Miss Theresa Huber, who survives him. In all this time they have lived on the same place where they commenced their married life.
Mr. Wagner has been an industrious, honest and useful citizen, and has commanded the full respect and esteem of all his old neighbors and of all our people.
The bereaved widow and the surviving children have the full sympathy of all our citizens.
The children are: Mrs. Sam J. Shafer of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., Joseph of this city, William, editor of the Thorp Courier, Mrs. Carl von Neupert of Stevens Point, and Barbara of this city.
The funeral occurred at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Thursday, conducted by Rev. Jos. Dreis, and despite a pouring rain the church was comfortably filled with people, gathered to pay their last sad respects to an honored citizen. The remains were interred in the German Catholic Cemetery south of the city.
