Obit: Newman, Howard R. (April 6, 1909 - Oct 8, 1983))

OWEN - Howard R. Newman, 74, of Owen was dead on arrival at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Colby Clinic of an apparent heart attack.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Owen. The Rev. Peter Thomsen will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

Visitation at the funeral home will begin after 4 p.m. today.

He was born April 6, 1909 in Owen, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Lottie James) Neuman, and received his education in schools there.

He married Ella Nicholson and they later divorced. He and Gladys Whitting were married Oct. 11, 1969 in Withee. She survives. he was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for many years.

Also surviving are six sons, Raymond of Loyal, Albert of Rensselaer, Ind., Marvin of Withee, Edward of Plymouth, Minn., Richard of Marshfield and Roger of Gilman; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Beverly) White of Stanley, Mrs. Patsy White of Spencer and Mrs. Peter (Linda) Strey of Loyal; one brother, Harris Newmann of Marshfield; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Olson of Two Rivers and Mrs. Anna Long of Owen; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother.
