(Jun 1838 - 24 Jan 1893) Died, at his
residence in the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., Jan. 24th, 1893,
George Kessler, aged 54 years and 7 months. George Kessler was
born in Jefferson Co., N.Y., where he resided till he came to
Wisconsin in 1848. He was married at Manitowoc July 11th, 1866 to
Elizabeth Engledinger and moved to Brown County soon after, where
he resided till he moved to Colby in May 1886. He leaves a wife and
five children, he was a good husband and kind father, and during
his residence among us he won the respect and esteem of all. Comrade Kessler
enlisted Aug. 12, 1862 in Co. D. 27th Infantry, Capt. Joseph
Rankin, and served till the close of the war, having been mustered
out Sept. 20th, 1865; he was taken prisoner at Jenken’s
Ferry, Ark., and served in the rebel prisons fifteen months, where
he contracted disease, which shortened his life, the comrade was a
member of the I. N. Earl Post, G. A. R. and has filled the offices
of Sergeant Major and Office of the Guard and stood well in the
estimation of all his comrades. He will be buried from St.
Killian’s Catholic Church, Saturday, Jan. 28th, 1893, at 11
a.m., Rev. Father Weikmann officiating, under the auspices of the
I. N. Earl Post, no 112.
