Forster, Vaughn Joseph Sr.

Vaughn Joseph Forster, Sr. 80, of 832 Woodward Ave., Chippewa Falls, died at his residence surrounded by his family Wednesday, August 3, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born July 1, 1925 in Durand, the son of Roy and Agnes (Harmon) Forster

In 1928, with his parents, they moved to Stanley where he attended local schools. He was drafted into the military in 1944, and trained in Jacksonville, FL, Camp Blainding. He was shipped overseas and arrived in France in December 1944. There he joined the 4th Division, 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He was injured and spent 2 1/2 months in an England hospital and was honorably discharged on February 26, 1946.

In 1946 he purchased a farm near Stanley and married Mathilda (Cornwall) Lund on August 21, 1948 at St. Anne's Catholic Church.

Besides farming, he worked 14 years as Chairman of the Clark County Agricultural Stabilization, spent 21 years as a member of the Stanley School Board and worked 20 years at the Northern Center. He sold the farm in 1979 to Kenneth and Veronica Forster and retired July 1, 1987. After retirement he enjoyed woodcrafts, fishing and traveling.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council #974, 4th Degree of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly and an honorary member for over 25 years and was also a member of American Post #77.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mathilda; five sones, Alan Lund of Cadott, Duane (Judy) of Red Wing, MN, LeRoy (Lisa) Forster of Prairie Farm, Vaughn James (Joanne) Forster of Stanley and Kenneth (Veronica) Forster of Stanley; three daughters, Sharon (Kelly) Karrmann of Chippewa Falls, LaVawn (Ray) Beecher of Salem and Mary Jane Forster of Eau Claire; one brother, Paul (Caryne) Forster of Clinton, MD Two sisters, Sister Lorraine Forster of Las Begas, NV and Phyllis (Robert) Dolle of Spokane, WA; five brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, 24 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; many neices, nephews, cousins, special family friends, Dr. Roberto and Dr. Myrna Casing of Stanley, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Charlie in 1959; one daughter-in-law, Linda Lund; and his parents.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2005 at Holy Family Church in Stanley. Rev. Robert Nelson was the celebrant of the funeral Mass. Internment was in Holy Family Cemetery, Stanley. Military rites were conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
