(18 Feb 1860 - 31 OCT 1893) Died, at her home
in Garden Prairie township, near Groton, Brown Co., S.D., on
Tuesday, Oct. 31st, 1893, of inflammation of the bowels, Mary
Sophie, wife of C. F. Carpenter, in the 34th years of her age. Mary Sophie
Eggebrecht was born Feb. 18th, 1860, in Milwaukee. She came to this
place (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.) in 1879, about two years after her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fr. Eggebrecht, located in the town of Wein,
Marathon Co., on the 24th of August 1881, she was united in
marriage with Chas. F. Carpenter, who survives to mourn her loss,
in 1885 she moved with her husband to Dakota where they have since
resided. She was the mother
of seven children, four sons and three daughters, of whom three
sons and one daughter are living and mourn the loss of a kind and
loving mother. As a girl, Mary
was a favorite among the young people, as she grew to womanhood she
retained her genial, kindly qualities that made her friends
wherever she went. She was a good woman and host of friends will
mourn her sudden demise. The remains were
brought here and taken to Wein, where the funeral occurred Friday
afternoon, Nov. 3rd, at the Lutheran Church, Rev. C. Schmals
officiating.
