County Republican & Press (Neillsville, Wis.) 10/21/1915 Thorp, Frank (? -
15 OCT 1915) "Shaggy", whose
real name was Frank Thorp, died at the Marshfield Hospital Friday
from injuries received by falling from a hay mower while working
with a hay press near Christie, Clark County a few weeks ago.
Shaggy has been one of the round-town characters in Neillsville for
many years. It is said that he was sent out here from New York City
by an orphan home society. He did odd jobs around hotels, boarding
houses and livery stables, sometimes going away on a tramp, but
never staying long enough in a place to gain a residence. He was
mentally weak but was harmless. Poor commissioner, Peter Johnson,
brought the remains back to Neillsville for burial Saturday.
