Griffith, Elizabeth (11 Jul 1839 - 10 Jan 1916)

Mrs. Elizabeth Griffith died at the home of her son, E.J. Griffith, at 12:10 o’clock Sunday morning, aged 75 years, 5 months and 28 days. Deceased, whose maiden name was Elizabeth C. Jones, was born at Liverpool, Eng., July 11, 1839. She came with her parents to America when she was eight years of age. They located at Sheboygan Falls and remained for ten years, then moved to Fond du Lac, which became their permanent home. She was married to John D. Griffith in 1861. Her husband died in June 1900, and since then she has made her home with her son, E.J. Griffith and family. Besides him she leaves to mourn her death three other sons: J.H. Griffith of Oshkosh; W.G. Griffith of Carrington, N.D.; and T.A. Griffith of Oklahoma City, Okla. She leaves also 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was a woman of high Christian character, and in the years of her strength was a helpful worker in the church. She was a faithful member of the M.E. Church from childhood. She was a devoted wife and a wise and loving mother. Her last words were "It pays to be ready."

Brief funeral services were held Monday at the home, Rev. L.B. Colman officiating, and he accompanied the family, who went with the remains to Rosendale, Wis., where funeral services were held Tuesday. Interment took place in the family lot beside her husband.
