(28 JUN 1848 - 28 Jan 1916) Mrs. William
Johnston died at her home west of Neillsville, Clark County,
Friday, Jan. 28, 1916, the cause of her death being paralysis. She
was born Rowena Baxter in Quebec, Canada, June 28, 1848, and grew
to womanhood there. She was married to Wm. Johnston Feb. 4, 1873
and the following June they came to Neillsville, settling on a farm
in Pine Valley west of the city, which has been their home ever
since. Mrs. Johnston was
a woman of rare good qualities, a good wife and mother, a helpful
and kindly neighbor. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband
and three children: Sam of Loyal, George of Circle, Mont., and
Gladys living at home; also two sisters, Mrs. H.J. Kemp of Toronto,
Canada, and Mrs. Wm. Hughes of Marlow, Canada; and one brother,
Grant Baxter of Hillsboro, N.D. The funeral was
held at the home Monday afternoon, Rev. S.B. Pinney officiating.
