A PIONEER LAID TO REST

A BRIEF SKETCH OF MR. ANDERSON, WHOSE DEATH WE MENTIONED LAST WEEK.

On the morning of August 23, 1900, death visited the quiet little village of Hemlock and claimed for his own, one of the first who made their homes in the wilds of Clark county.

Mr. K. (Knud) Anderson came to this country from Norway at the age of fourteen years. Since his marriage he has passed most of his life in Clark county. He was known by all as an honest, upright and conscientious man, who was ever ready and willing to render any little service that was in his power. But none but his own knew of the many sacrifices which he made that he might give his family comfort and make them happy. It seems the more sad to have taken away one, who, although he had been a sufferer for years, never complained, and was ever patient under trials. But how sweet and comforting is the thought that it is only for a time: and that in the better home beyond, we shall meet again. And with the poet we will say: "I can not say, and I will not say that he is dead, he is just away."

His wife and twelve children survive him, all of whom were present when his remains were laid away in the quiet, peaceful cemetery at Greenwood, while his spirit, we love to think, rests with the God whom he loved and trusted. The following verses are penned by a friend in memory of Mr. Anderson.
